A Road Weather Information System (RWIS) has been successfully deployed in May 2018 at Summit Hill on the Alaska Highway. The station is capable in monitioring:
- Ambient Temperature
- Ambient Moisture
- Wind Direction and Speed
- Relative Humidity
- Atmospheric Pressure
- Road Surface Temperature
- Road Condition (Wet, Icy or Snow covered)
- Rain precipitation
- Snow Precipitation
- Visibility in m
In addition to that, the station also sends a picture to our server, which is visible on a web-interface for the client.
All of the data is transmitted via satellite to our cloud server since there is no cell phone or other internet connection available on site. The site is also very remote, that it was required to completely solar power the station with battery backup.
